To Be With You Again
Lennon
1)  Martian Advance
(1990) Originally called ESQUIRE, this song was first improvised in a show by Imprasia in San Francisco. This version is performed at CRC featuring Alex on bass and guitar. John Krug plays the live drums. We remixed it at the Monkey House. Alex added piano.

2)  Naturally
(1996) Drum programs: Stefan Taylor. Alex wrote this song about his father. And how it happened...
And how it happened...Naturally, Naturally, And how you see me, Is how I see myself, I'm not on a shelf. When I see you far away I'm so proud to represent you, Naturally, Life is fine, in fact it's excellent Quantitative living is finally easy and free Life should be a steady boat ride, But I don't know why, Memories make me cry, Memories make me cry. I don't know why, They make me cry. Maybe it's human--Maybe it's you, man, I don't know... Life should be a steady boat ride, But I don't know why, Memories make me cry, Memories make me cry. I don't know why, I don't know why, I don't know why...

3)  Structure
(1988) Originally improvised by Imprasia. In this version Gene Matthews plays the powerbass. John Krug on the live drums and Alex Hirsch plays guitars and keyboards. Recorded at CRC by Chris Shepherd in 1993. Remixed at The Monkey House in 1997. Pianos and vocals were added.

4)  I Speak the Truth
(1997) 3 a.m. one morning
Trying to find a chord or string or maybe nothing good, Trying to go down a dirty drain. Sleeping, slipping, sliding by a slip still sipping secrets from my Over-drenched, wet-with-foam brain. And how can you hear nayway when you're so busy talking? And almost all who walk are full of shit. And how can you tell me I'm a talent, All the best you've ever seen When seeing is for people when they ain't talking And I speak the truth And how about you??? And really how can you hear me when I didn't speak at all And oh, you're the one who's so busy saying it. You tell me I'm a talent all the best you've ever seen But seeing is for people who ain't talking The words I say are true And how about you???

5)  Nova
(1987) Live drums: John Krug, All saxes: Jimmy D. Man
Happiness is... Walking with my Mary in the dream. She doesn't know to make things clear, Or even if she'll make it here. I love you my Mary. She said, "Let's play downtown. I'll show You what today brings, I'll even show you yesterday, But never tomorrow..." Hearing you talk to me, Seeing you all dressed in red, Watching you dance, dance with me, Nova... Singing your operas That's what they do to me every time. Something's exploding inside my brain, Nova, It's what you do to me...

6)  Christine
(1994) Drum programs: Joshua Shopera, Engineered by: Joshua Shopera, Mixed under a half-pipe skateboard ramp in a far too extravagant loft apartment in downtown Chicago...
I met someone who showed me love in most peculiar ways except for when she came to me in my sleep. I wished to someone powerful that she had come to stay, And all the promises she made, she'd keep. She's got a way that's magical because she cuts too deep And since I'm kinda soft she gets to me She's beautiful and more than that, she's everything to me. So why is everything so hard to see? (chorus) Christine I met you yesterday and now today has gone away, And tomorrow never comes. I look around and I see you everywhere my eyes will ever go, And I guess we'll never know, I guess we'll never know. I guess we just won't know.
The little trip we tried to take it started up the end. You couldn't let me feel so good I'd glow, with you all over me. You far away from me right now I haven't got a clue. Undoubtedly you're putting on a show. (chorus)

7)  One Confession
(1990) Words and music by: Gully Weiss, Lead guitar: Gully Weiss, Rhythm guitar and vocals: Alex Hirsch, Drums: John Krug, Bass: Peter Rochelle
Oh sweetness, and emotion I feel for you. One mistake is all it takes to expose you. One confession, one confession. One confession, one confession All your business will be terminated until I know All your follies and one night jollies will be shown. One confession, one confession. One confession, one confession. (JAM)

8)  5755
(1989) South Harper, Hyde Park, Illinois. Words and music by: Gully Weiss, All guitars: Gully Weiss, Piano and vocals: Alex Hirsch, Drums: John Krug, Bass: Peter Rochelle, Saxes: Jimmy D. Man
Sitting on a sidewalk stoop in the month of May Sunshine soaking my dreams. Ain't got much to do but watch the world go by, And hear Sweet Suzy as she sings and plays and I, Feel the music, I hear it coming now. Feel the rhythms fly out loud. I used to be a wound up top, spinning, spinning 'round. Didn't know how to find the common ground Life was rough and tough and hard to pin on down But those sweet sounds came my way and I, Feel the music. I hear it coming now. Feel the rhythms fly out loud... (chorus) Don't need no hassles to get me down. Don't need approval to hang around I pick it up for what it's worth and then I put it down. I have an urge for the sound, the sound... Lazy day summer way is the way for me And the sweet smell of serenity Let life take it's course the way it wants to be. There's no need to force it I, I believe, and I feel the music. I hear it coming now. Feel the rhythms fly out loud... (Sax solo over chorus) Sitting on a sidewalk stoop in the month of May I take my guitar and I start to play. There's my good old cat resting for the day. Yeah he listens in his own sweet way and I... Feel the music. I hear it coming now. Feel the rhythms fly out loud. (chorus) The sound, yeah, The sound, yeah. Gimme some sound!

9)  Jail
(1989) Drum programs: Stefan Taylor, Saxes: Jimmy D. Man, Bass was played on a keyboard (Trinity)
What's it like to be in jail? What does forty years really mean, anyway? What's it like to always fail? Is it the american dream? People wrap themselves in someone, Then they make it all go away. Then they say they're sorry, "Please stay," No one ever feels okay... No one ever feels okay... No one ever knows the way... (to their happiness, so pull it all down) Wanting someone's okay sometimes. Needing someone is almost always a crime. People who are wanted are themselves. Is it gonna break if it falls? Is it gonna break if it falls? whoa oo whoa oo please don't fall.

10) Stef's Introduction
(1997) Stef recorded this intro when Alex went out to get some food. It took him a half an hour and is left as it was laid down on Adat. All programming: Stefan Taylor

11) Girlfriend
(1997) Live drums: Stefan Taylor, Tenor and soprano saxes: Jimmy D. Man, Electric guitars: Bruce (Boneshaker) Illig, Acoustic guitars: Stefan Taylor
Perfect in every way, Hero of woman extract. Oh, so seriously ferocious... Especially in the gym. Besides all that, Ohhh, There is so much more. Every part of her mind, is good... Help me get to know her, everyday, forever. All my life I've demanded the things she simply laughs at She's hotter than the sun. Every part of her is fun. Really I just wanna get to know her I just want to get to know her...

12) Christine
(1994) (solo version) In this version Alex divulges where he borrowed the tune. Special thanks to Simon from Duran Duran.
Words are the same as other version.

13) The Day
(1995) Flying high in April, shot down in May. Drums: John Krug, Saxes: David Byrd
They came out of nowhere and smashed into my world. And we ran out downstairs to hide. This tune was running through my head, while I was dying It was the only thing alive... It took twenty minutes to find and lock my hands. The men were mean they locked them well. And when we finally got to where we were going, I didn't know anyone at all-- Who are you, and what did you decide on me? When you don't even know me, But that's okay. This song is far from over, in fact, it's just the beginning. Like the bottom of the third no outs one on. That Judge is pitching up a curve to the state's attorney, If I can get a hit then I'll come home. I'll come home, I'll come home again, When you don't even know me...

14) Swami
Drums: John Krug, All saxes: Jimmy D. Man
Swami, When did you walk into my life? Swami, Did you think that it was all right? Swami, couldn't you see there was somebody else? But there's really nobody else, I live for you... Swami, You've existed in both future and past. Swami, and did you not think it would last? Swami, could you take me to where happiness lies? But I know you'll tell me lies, When I look deep in your eyes, I live for you... When I put my mind to rest, And I look around and I see it best. I go inside from the outside, and the rain, and the snow And I know Ooh I know I live for you... Don't tell me I don't wanna know. And did you think that it was all right? And all I want is to say goodnight, Goodnight to you...

15) Time and Space
(1987) Some background vocals: Stefan Taylor
Time and space have no separate place, Except for where you are... I'm packing everything I dreamed of. To be with you in the magic land of Trees are mean, until they're turning green. Let's go b ehind one in the moonlight. So soft so alive. Feel the beat deep inside. We'll fall together as we'll come apart.

16) To Be With You Again
(1996) Written by: Gully Weiss, Performed by: Imprasia at The Early Monkey House on Racine. IMPRASIA: Live drums: John Krug, Bass: Peter Rochelle, Guitar: Gully Weiss, Pianos: Alex Hirsch
Nothing can take me from this time, To be with you again. Nothing can take me from this place, To be with you again. (chorus) Ohh Ohh Ohh I see the spirit in your eyes Ohh Ohh Ohh, it's so real. And I'm coming back again, I'm coming home! Nothing can take me from this time, (not the rain or the snow) To be with you again. Nothing can take me from this place, (nothing that you know) To be with you again. (chorus) And I can't believe it, The time has gone so fast. It's like a lightning bolt from the Heavens. The time has gone so fast. The time has gone. When you see me, remember my name child. When you see me, remember who I am.

17) Lennon
(1990) Guitars, pianos, bass: Alex Hirsch, Drums: John Krug
How could that psycho have done that?! Under such a nice penthouse apartment On the upper west side of pretty New York city Where the peaceful man used to hide... He probably didn't even know how a gun worked Or what it feels like to get shot... Till some freakozoid came and blew his guts out. It means much more than that, It means a lot (chorus) Nobody knew better what was going on Than the man who called his friend the Walrus He used to sing about freedom and acid trips, And windy ships and he Imagined that we all lived as one Yes he imagined, all the people in the world Lived as one... He had a super fine wife that he He used to call his "Honey" But after he lost his life she seemed to make A whole lot a money What's it like to be impossible? What's it like to be impossible? Can anybody tell me? (chorus) Won't anybody stop the rain? Why won't anybody stop the rain?
