Alex Hirsch demonstrates his leadership ability and commitment to volunteering in his community by serving as Chair of the City of West Sacramento's Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure Commission and managing a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization: The West Sacramento Friends of the Library. Alex also can be found at West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce mixers and West Sacramento Rotary Club meetings, stopping for friendly talks throughout the West Sacramento community, and cheering West Sacramento highlights on social media with the hashtags #WestSacBestSac and #WestSacProud.
Alex previously coached several UC Davis School of Law student teams competing in the American Bar Association's National Appellate Advocacy Competition, culminating in the 2017 team earning regional champion awards at the San Francisco Regional Competition.

- Lead a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the West Sacramento Community by supporting library programming and services at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library. - Preside over monthly board meetings, organize fundraising events, and provide strategic guidance to help the Friends better connect with the community and assist the library in carrying out its mission.
City of West Sacramento - Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure Commission Chair: Feb 2018 – Present Vice-Chair: Feb 2017 - Feb 2018
- Advise and make recommendations to the West Sacramento City Council and city staff on matters falling within the scope and duties of the Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure Commission, which include: Transportation Planning, Bicycle and Pedestrian Policies and Facility Planning; Goods Movement; Charging and Fueling Infrastructure for Electric, Hydrogen, and other Alternative Fuel Vehicles; Public Transit; Ridesharing, Transportation Network Services, and Taxicabs; Plans and Standards for Roads, Bridges, and Highways; and Flood Management Infrastructure. - Serve as the local advisory body and city representative to the the Yolo County Transportation District, the governing entity for the streetcar system, the Port Commission, and, as appropriate, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments.
City of West Sacramento - Age-Friendly Advisory Committee Member: Jul 2016 - Jul 2017
- Member of ad-hoc committee co-chaired by Mayor Pro Tem Mark Johannessen and Councilmember Babs Sandeen, with members nominated from each of the city's advisory commissions. - Helped guide the development of a self-assessment and Age-Friendly Action Plan to support the city's membership in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, a partnership dedicated to supporting the dignity, independence, and quality of life of older city residents and the entire community.

-Advised and made recommendations to the West Sacramento City Council and city staff on matters falling within the scope and duties of the Environment and Utilities Commission, which include: Tree Preservation; Habitat and Natural Communities Conservation; Williamson Act easements; Agricultural Land Conservation; Open Space; Energy; Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Services and Usage; Refuse, Recycling, and Solid Waste Services and Usage; and Telecommunications Services and Usage. - Served as the local advisory body and city representative to the Sacramento Regional Sanitation District, the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District, the Yolo Habitat Conservancy, and the Delta Protection Commission.
UC Davis School of Law Attorney Coach: Jan 2015 - Apr 2017
- Coached several UC Davis, School of Law student teams competing in the American Bar Association's National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC).
